Based on the novel, “Tradesman and Sons” (Meisteris ir sūnūs) by P. Cvirka A satyrical tragic comedy portraying events at the beginning of the last century, Šnekučiai tells the story of 2 village tradesmen, two friends-Deveika, the tradesman with the golden touch portrayed by – „The Arch d‘Triomph“ winner, Luidas Mikalauskas, and the jovial tailor Kriza, embodied by Deividas Norvilas-Deivis. Burdened by every day cares, but emboldened by Kriza, he creates a mysterious wooden bird - a dream - that anyone could rise above the clouds and be free like the birds. The able and creative friends are characterized by the optimistic views of life, an excellent sense of humor,a vivid imagination-which helps them to fight for freedom and reach for their dreams. The theme of the satyrical tragic comedy “Šnekučiai“ deals with not only our nation‘s survival, it‘s liberation - but what Lithuania had to face at the beginning of the last century. The insipiration for Šnekučiai is – the 1976 musical –“ Pagramančio Šnekučiai”, authored by Algimanatas Bražinskas and Antanas Drilingas for the Kaunas Theatre - one of the first such productions in this genre in Lithuania, becoming the most popular theatre production of that time period. After many years, a modern interpretation of this play, giving it new life, was achieved by producer Nerijus Petrokas. The tragic comic plot, the outstanding music, the passionate dancing, the authentic national costumes, the modern stage production and the outpouring of Lithuanian folk humor – the production will be undoubtably received by both young and old alike. Over 50 musicians, dancers, singers and choir member perform in the musical.
