Citizen-Police Mediation Forum

Friday, August 23, 2019, 1:30 AM

Join the Cleveland Community Police Commission (CPC) as we discuss our proposal for an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mediation program in the City of Cleveland. The proposed dispute mediation program is designed to utilize trained mediators to resolve minor misconduct complaints between citizens and officers in a cost effective, timely and procedurally just manner. Conversational programs have been proven to be a successful form of dispute resolution in other cities. If adopted, the mediation program is expected to: • Bolster trust between the community and the police• Increase understanding of social issues between police officers and the citizens they serve• Increase citizen confidence in the “system” and willingness to report a complaint • Increase morale of officers and overall satisfaction with the organizational justice system • Reduce the time between receipt and resolution without compromising the integrity of the process • Reduce costs of all complaint resolutionsCPC Co-Chair, Sergeant Richard Jackson of the Cleveland Police Department, will be hosting this panel discussion regarding the process of mediation between police officers and the community. He will be joined by a panel of experts that worked to develop this mediation plan. This event is open to the public. Where: Rainey Institute, 1705 East 55th St., Cleveland, OH 44103 When: 6:30pm - 8:30pm  For more information, contact the Community Police Commission: www.clecpc.org/our-office
