Stroller Tour: All About Face

Sunday, July 15, 2018, 7:00 PM

MEMBER STROLLER TOURS Select Sundays in June, July, August 12-12:45p   All aboard for cruise creative! Join a museum educator on a tour mapped out for our youngest members, birth to 12 months of age, with a caregiver.   Bring your curious little traveler in a hands-free baby carrier or stroller to encourage closer looking and listening, hands-free, with creative destinations specially charted for baby’s budding curiosity and visual stimulation. While babies are soaking up the color and shapes, adults learn intriguing tidbits about the artists’ own family life, upbringing and early creative influences that made them who they are today.   Tour group size is limited. Baby-wearing apparel or stroller is a prerequisite for participation.   Reserve your stroller parking spot by registering at akronartmuseum.org/eventregistration or call Educator for Family and Children’s Programs, Amanda Crowe, at 330.376.9186 x231.   Sunday, June 10 B.Y.O.B. – Bring Your Own Bib for Color Purees and Shapely Solids Because the brains of babies are not yet wired to separate incoming sensory information in their environment, it’s possible that an infant’s perception may look a lot like an extreme case of synesthesia. Synesthesia – what? Synesthesia is a kind of cross-wiring of the senses that can evoke flavors from sounds, tastes from words, or colors from smells. A person with synesthesia may visualize a colorful crescendo while listening to Mozart or taste orange in a sunset. Straight from the mouths of babes, this tour encourages adults to look at art with “baby eyes,” by seeing with their taste buds, sniffer and fingertips.   Sunday, July 15 Stress, Love, and Belly Rubs: The Art of Emotional Response By the time infants are five months old, they learn to match the image of an emotional expression with its corresponding vocal expression. Practice modeling expressive communication with your baby as we pair emotional faces in the collection with playful mirror-time and portrait peek-a-boo.     Sunday, August 12 Playing it by Ear: Listening Games in the Galleries Acoustics play a major role when your little one cries out to you from an adjacent room, makes playful noises in the bathtub, or steadily hums in the car seat to the vibration of a bumpy road. Babies, who are only hours old can differentiate between familiar and unfamiliar sounds in their environment, recognizing the specific voices of their caregivers and categorizing the noises around them. The architectural elements of the museum itself provide unique opportunities to experiment with the acoustics of loud and soft sounds and echo while works in the collection
