Creating a Trauma Informed Culture of Care for Housing Providers (Cleveland 8.8.2018)
The intent of this training is to gauge the extent to which an Residential Facility Class 2 (Adult Care Facility) and Recovery Housing providers have developed a culture of trauma-informed care. By trauma-informed, we mean a culture that incorporates knowledge about trauma- its prevalence, impact, and the complex paths to recovery and healing- into every aspect of the program's contacts, activities, relationships, and physical settings. Safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment are the core values of that culture. The workshop will also define harm reduction and trauma-informed care and demonstrate the connection between the two and the ways they can enhance each other when used together by developing strategies to put into practice. A scale will be introduced to you for your use. It can serve as a guide for your own service improvement. The Creating Cultures of Trauma-Informed Care scale addresses: 1) the Physical Setting; 2) Interpersonal Contact; 3) Trustworthiness; 4) Choice; 5) Collaboration; 6) Empowerment; 7) Formal Service Policies; 8) Screening- Assessment-Service Planning (for treatment providers); 9) Administrative Support; 10) Trauma Survivor Involvement; 11) Evaluation; 12) Staff Training; 13) Human Resources Practices. Target Audience: Residential Facility Class 2 (ADF) and Recovery Housing Operators, Owners and Staff Continuing Education Units (CEUs): 6 hours for SW, Counselors, RN and LPN's.
